South Bank Street Food

London's South Bank has become the go-to venue for street food in the city and, dispite rain putting paid to ideas of dessert (ice cream) I ate three courses there today book-ending see the irrepressible James Cordon in One Man Two Guvnors at the NT (very funny indeed.)

First up Engine by the theatre for a British chorizo sandwich, served spicy as recommended. I spotted this place highlighted in the recent London street food festival, which is what set me on this course to begin with.

I mean, does London really have street food to rival Vancouver or LA (let's leave Asia out of this, no western country can match Hong Kong or Seoul for street eats.) The sandwich was very tasty indeed. I'd happily have another at £4. They also do hot dogs at £3.

Luardos, found in the Beacon street food market served up the high point of my meal - a fish taco with piles of trimmings (fresh chilis optional but free). There was a couple there from another vendor photographing every aspect of my taco being made. Here's hoping they plan to go into business too and London goes fish taco crazy (or how about fish finger tacos?) Anyway Luardos probably need not fear competition as they've already set the bar high. A bargain at £4.

Last off Woodward's for a burger. I've already blogged these guys from the Letchworth Food Fair and it's great to see quality is still high. Another £4.50 well spent (£4 without cheese.)

So, rain aside, how did London do? Not too badly actually. Now we just need to see this level of quality spread across town.
