I was reading the great forums over at
Egullet the other night when I came across this
link to Mark Hix reviewing London's top burgers. I was inspired, sometimes nothing else will do: you need a posh burger. Rather than follow Hixxy into the big smoke I ventured to
The Stables at The Grove, a short hop from where I work. Course chopped meat, bound not too tightly. A solid set of condiments, including caramelised onion and pickled veggies. A nice ciabatta-style bread. Not bad at all. The chips were fine too. Summer is the Stables metier - you can sit outside with a nice view of the golf course and a small garden (and service is slow enough that you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the view, I'm assuming that the Grove believes its clients are all at leisure, rather than having jobs to go to).
On the subject of the Grove last week I headed back to the
Glasshouse. If anything the food had improved - there's now a neat selection of tapas and the quality of the desserts have gone up a notch too. Service was attentive, if slightly rushed. If only the Stables and the Glasshouse could meet in the middle, then they'd have perfect service. Even more highly recommended than before.
