Las Vegas

Ok, this is a very different Las Vegas experience than the one I'm used to. Since 1998 I've been coming to Vegas annually. First for the Comdex trade show in November, then when that died for CES in January. But I've never been to Vegas when the weather is swimming pool sultry and there are no trade shows on.

For a start the town is packed, maybe three or four times the density of CES, and all of those folks are here to have a good time. Or I guess to have a bad time very intensely if they're loosing. Everywhere you turn there are mariachi bands, gaggles of drunk girls, tour parties following umbrellas, and booze booze booze.

I like it more than I've ever liked Vegas before (in fact I can only recall liking one previous Vegas trip, 2008 I think.)

Perhaps it's just that for once I'm meeting Vegas half way. I'm discovering that what ails one can usually at least be alleviated by the things Vegas had to offer: circuses, cocktails, shopping, Michelin starred food, bare breasts and Cheap Trick playing Sgt. Pepper.

Now if only I liked gambling... But I lost $4 earlier and it made me quite cross. Maybe I'd better stay away from the tables.
