Heston Ultimate Burger at Waitrose

So for dinner tonight I had burgers. Waitrose Ultimate Burgers, by Heston Blumenthal. Ok, the name is hyperbolic, but... they were the best burgers I've ever had at home.

Heston says: ‘To make the burger as tender as possible, I have created a blend of three different cuts of beef especially minced to ensure the meat's grain all sits vertically within the burger. Finely minced chuck and brisket are combined with bigger chunks of minced forerib that’s been aged for 28 days to give the burger an extra depth of flavour.'

Yep - that's the same method he proposed in his TV show and, speaking as someone who frequently haunts the higher end of the supermarket burger market, it works marvels. Ok, it helps that you have to be an idiot not to be able to cook a burger (super hot pan, turn frequently) but here's one area where the unskilled home cook really can make something as good as you can get in a restaurant. This burger wiped the floor with the one I paid £11 for in Les Deux Salons a couple of weeks back. And what's more there's two for your £4.49. Get to Waitrose ASAP!

  1. Hi I've just stumbled across your blog, it's brilliant and these burgers really do look delish! I may have to treat myself to some at the next weekly shop!
