Mesopotamia, Wembley, London

I found Mesopotamia online where it was listed as no. 1 in Wembley on Trip Advisor. That's actually no bad thing to be as Wembley is a decent area for eats especially if you like Indian, Chinese, Thai and African food.

We went for the tasting menu which delivers 10 plates for sharing that let you sample a wide range of middle eastern / Mediterranean dishes.

Appetizers included humous, fattush and best of all babah ghanouge
(roast mashed aubergine).

Main courses included mukluba, a rice tower and the most 'Mediterranean ' seeming dish. Lamb meatballs were declared by a friend to be 'the high point of the meal' but I beg to differ thinking the babel curry (a chicken curry dating back to 1700BC Mesopotamia and pre dating Indian curries) the best dish of an impressive selection.

Dessert is simple, essentially mignardises, with backlava (pistachio and cardamom pastries) and mu rasale (dates stuffed with spiced walnut paste).

The coffee is excellent, also spiced with cardamom and the beer is worth checking out with an excellent Lebanese example called Almaza.

Drinks are reasonably priced as is the tasting menu at £25 (a slightly different menu costs £20).

It's worth mentioning too the rather lovely decor of the restaurant and the lovely, friendly service, which began solicitously and ended warmly after we engaged in conversation regarding the interesting menu.

Not just a good venue for a meal if you're in Wembley for an event but, with Wembley Park just 12 minutes from Marylebone station by tube, worth making a destination for a fun, fabulous and filling meal.
