Park Terrace, London, redux

I wrote a positive mini-review of Park Terrace at the Royal Garden Hotel (a place I have a deep fondness for having stayed there as a child) a few weeks ago and this week slipped back for a second go, given that it's terribly convenient for both the Evening Standard and Daily Mail offices (and, if you're the sort for it, High Street Kensington home of nothing much I like except Whole Foods which I usually pass longingly on my way to business meetings that you can't take a picnic too).

I was pleased to note that not only was the first visit not a fluke but that the menu had shifted notably - even the daily duo of fish which remained from my last visit was notably refreshed (skate and halibut which I was assured were very good).

I had a roughly flavoured pork and duck terrine (more duck than pig) which was hearty and more gamey than the ingredients might suggest. A notable win.

This was followed by a nice piece of roast salmon with courgette and crushed potato. Nothing spectacular but far from disappointing. The sort of thing one makes at home, and is pleased to receive in the homes of others.

And again, even with a nice Malbec at £32, lunch for four was less than £100 before service (which was very efficient and well tailored to those with a rigid hour for lunch and to the old folk guests who looked firmly settled and avoiding the rain - I'd say a 50/50 split between the two camps).
