The queue outside the Twisted Fork suggests the food must be exceptional, and indeed we were asked a couple of times if it was really that good during our 45 minute wait for a table of three. It's only when you get inside and see the small note on the menu explaining that, since there are only two cooks in the kitchen you will have to wait longer than you might be used to, that you realise this place is simply geared wrong for the number of covers. Churn is artificially limited, creating the epic wait line. It's great street marketing but otherwise it's just poor management - the place is understaffed.
Food was fine overall. Rustic scones were too crumbly - if you can't eat a scone by hand it's not right IMHO. Banana bread was really good though. I think the best breakfasts are construction jobs: fresh ingredients, properly cooked and sympathetically presented. It's not a place to show off skills that go much beyond poaching an egg. In that respect Twisted Fork was right up my ally - my beans on sourdough toast with spinach, salad and two perfectly poached eggs hit the spot.
However when compared to places in town with better food and hardly any queues it's hard to recommend that you hang around if you show up at a busy time. Still, if they can do something about the slow output then maybe before long that queue will be there for the right reasons.

Hmmm.... Salad with breakfast? I'm raising a solitary eyebrow.
