Kyashi, London

Kyashi must know they're expensive, but what can they do about it? They're in an expensive part of town, between Covent Garden and Leicester Square, and have only 24 covers plus some bar seating. While £4.50 for a coke (the same price as a Kirin Ichiban) is outrageous there's one bargain to be had - the new £6.95 lunch deal. Tempura, egg, chicken and pork are available served with rice, pickles and miso soup. I had tonkatsu (pork) and it was really rather good. A sensible lunch portion on sticky rice with a little salad and a touch of Japanese mayo.

A second lunch deal at £20 looks good value too. I'd maybe still balk at the evening menu prices - you could almost eat at Nobu for the money - but I'll definitely give lunch at Kyashi another try.
